Show Notes – Episode 24: Cathy Doyle
Cathy Doyle has spent most of her corporate life in Australia focused on people-related activities and leadership roles. The humanised workforce and the psychology of work has where she has spent much time. It has been the underpinning of many of the projects she has spent on culture, change and transformation.
Cathy has worked across the finance and aviation sectors. Currently, she is working in startups focused on technology cloud communications.
She is also a mother and spends time trying to raise two adolescent and adult sons.
Cathy is passionate about the humanised workforce and what motivates humans. It is hard to overestimate the value of humans, their emotional intelligence and the process they use to evaluate things. Humans are the most adaptable creatures. Humans have improved work-life balance, developed new businesses and centres of excellence based on technology.
Regardless of the technology, the best solution is always “plus people”. It is not either/or. People do the thinking, the adapting, the leading and the inspiring, and inject the passion and the connection with and through others.
Communication skills are essential.
Emotional skills are in significant demand. How is it best to inspire a remote team?
Leadership skills are very different. Not being a directing boss. Leadership is now a hub and spoke role. The hub is updating each team member and keeping them connected to the team. The spoke is a requirement to be more intimate with the staff working at home.
Young people are highly qualified and ambitious. The mentoring they require should focus on communication skills. The interview process, developing rapport, researching organisations, presenting the best self and trying to differentiate themselves in the hiring process.
