Marc Prensky is a thinker, author and public speaker. His focus is on helping young people get things they need in the future world of empowerment.
Marc is passionate about helping the 2 billion kids in the world. Each is unique.
Young people are treated as pets and owned objects. Parenting should be about curation. Parents do not own their kids.
We have arrived at a place where young people have incredible capabilities but we have not worked out how the young can utilise this potential
Marc’s vision is that the modern school for young people will involve hundred of projects that focus on what the individual is passionate about.
Young people are engaging with issues around the environment and less focus on accumulating wealth and possessions. However, it is impossible to generalise because of individuality. The most important thing is to ask them.
Leadership is overrated. It is something business schools try to teach. We are all leaders in some things and followers in others. It is a problem that there is so much focus on leadership instead of followership.
Work should be about adding unique value and creating value.
What are your dreams? The traditional way has been to fill the youth up with all the old things. Marc prefers asking young people what they visualise and what they would like to do. .
Traditional education is fine for some of the population. Other cohorts need a different approach.
Leadership is about listening. It's hard to lead people if you don’t know where they want to go.
